It’s like Rain on your wedding day

Mar 24, 2025

As a wedding photographer in the UK, I’ve learned one thing for certain: rain doesn’t have to ruin your big day – in fact, it can make it even more magical! The unpredictable weather here can often surprise us, but instead of stressing about a bit of drizzle or downpour, embrace it. A rainy day can lead to some of the most unique and romantic photos you’ll treasure forever.

Here are a few tips to make sure you’re prepared for the rain

1. Bring Spare Shoes A little rain means wet grass and puddles, so it’s wise to have a comfortable, waterproof pair of shoes tucked away for walking between locations. Don’t let soggy feet stop you from having fun. With proper footwear, you’ll be free to move around without worrying about slipping or ruining your shoes.

2. Don’t Stress About the Dress While it’s natural to worry about your beautiful gown getting dirty, remember: this is your big day! If the rain means a few splashes or muddy footprints, think of it as part of the adventure. Many brides find that once they make peace with the idea of a bit of dirt, they’re able to relax and get some fantastic shots.

3. Embrace the Weather Rain can add so much character to your wedding photos. Those soft, dark moody skies, reflections in puddles, and intimate moments under an umbrella create a unique atmosphere that a clear, sunny day just can’t replicate. As a photographer, I always encourage couples to be playful with the weather, whether it’s sharing a cheeky kiss in the rain or taking a stroll under the umbrella. Don’t be afraid to get a little wet – some of the best shots come from these spontaneous moments!

4. Choose a Photographer Familiar with the Venue One of the key things to consider when planning a wedding is to choose a photographer who knows the venue well and has experience in dealing with wet weather. A photographer who’s familiar with the venue will know the best spots for photos, whether it’s indoors or sheltered outdoors, and can offer contingency plans if the weather turns. This level of preparation can help you feel more at ease, knowing you won’t miss out on getting beautiful photos.

5. Have Fun and Make Memories Ultimately, weddings are about love and celebration. Rain or shine, it’s the joy of the day that will be remembered. Keep the mood light and fun, and let the weather be just another part of your unforgettable experience. After all, it’s not about avoiding a little rain – it’s about making the most of every moment, no matter what nature throws your way!
